I just asked this in Polls & Surveys, but I want to get as many informative and thoughtful answers as possible.

I currently live “out in the state,” or about an hour east of Louisville.

I’m about to attend graduate school in Louisville. I’ve been there many times and really like it better than Lexington; it’s better than any region in the state, as well as any place else I’ve lived (which includes Cincinnati, Evansville, IN, Mobile, AL, Tuscaloosa, AL, Paducah, KY, and Northern VA.) I’m looking forward to UofL and living in Kentucky’s largest city.

-What are some odd and end things to do in Louisville (other than the big downtown “touristy” sites?)
-Where are the best places to live in the city (also willing to consider suburbs, Oldham Co., and north Bullitt Co.) that are economical and safe?
-Strictly out of curiosity, why would you recommend or not recommend this city over others?

Favorites:
1. San Antonio. Weather, atmosphere, hospitality
2. Austin. Ditto, plus a really funky vibe and mellow culture
3. Fort Worth. Old west feel, still maintains its heritage, great people, friendlier part of Metroplex.
4. Memphis. Good people, natural beauty around city, atmosphere that can’t be replicated.
5. Nashville. Good people, natural beauty.
6. New York (Manhattan). Not as mean as it is made out to be; people actually hold doors open, say “thank you” when you hold a door open, and some will even talk to you when you’re friendly, unlike other places up north.

Least favorites:
1. Louisville. Preaches its Southern hospitality, but has the rudest, most hateful, unhelpful, selfish people of any place I’ve ever been. Even in restaurants and CHURCHES people will shove and cuss at you. (I used to live there, I know.)
2. Evansville, IN. Too much like L’ville!
3. Clarksville, TN. Dull, boring
4. Dallas. Rude drivers, dirty city
5. New Jersey!
Oh, by the way, about Memphis. I didn’t mean IT had natural beauty; I’m saying the areas south and east of there are pretty.

Louisville: the two worst experiences in service I’ve ever received in a restaurant were there. Plus, if you introduce yourself to locals and they know you’re an out-of-towner, they will no longer acknowledge, much less talk to you. You have to be a local to be treated with any kind of respect there.

OK first thing is first I was living with my father for about 3 months after completeing the Job Corps program. My father has basicually mental and physically abused me my entire life. One day I was fixing some chicken and french fries and the grease make a little popping noise and it woke my father up he than got mad and threw a coffee cup at me striking me in the head which caused a cut that had to be closed up by staples. I went down to the police station right after it happened and told them and of course they put him in jail. Anyways I was going to College at the time which I am still going and I now am homeless living in my car. I went to my grandmas which is my dads mother which she lives in Owensboro, Ky and asked her and see if I could stay with her for awhile until I got back on my feet and she basicually said no. She said that she was so set in her ways that she just could’nt and my Uncle and Aunt was sitting there to and they didnt help either I believe they are mad at me

because I called the law on my dad which is my grandmas son, uncles borther and aunts brother, I have been living in my car off and on for about 3 months. Churches have been helping me out alittle which I am greatful for but they put me in a hotel for one night and something to eat for a night and of course I am greatful. Well than I started to go on a drinking benge and got a P.I. in Owensboro, Ky and thats a fine I have to pay and then about a week later I went to Evansville In, and was pissing out in the parking lot thought no one was watching and the cops roll up and take me to jail for public ****** and a P.I. stayed in jail for about 5 hours and they let me out. I know you are woundering how I got the money to drink and I got it from raking leaves. Then I went to the police station a couple days later to get a voucher to get a place to stay and to eat and gave them my ID they ran my name and it said I had a suspended licence in Indiana but I was in kentucky and my kentuckys is ok
